What is Multimedia?

With "Multi" meaning more than one and "Media" meaning mass communication. Multimedia uses more than one medium of transmitting information through examples such as video, animation, audio, text or any interactive graphic visuals. Individually they all can transmit information and when all combined together they have the ability to make something incredibly immersive.

All the components of multimedia speak for themselves but interestingly share the same qualities of how they can make someone feel or visually see something.

  • Text can be used in articles explain a story. Also in video, to set the scene in a particular year, location etc.
  • Graphics has a broad spectrum to which it can be applied to. Still images, GIFs, Annimations, recorded video can be used in documentaries as visual evidence to back up the text. Graphics can be used as simple as being a lockscreen picture on your phone.
  • Audio can be taken from many different instruments and be transformed into a completely different sound or to provide a certain mood or vibe. Ex: Electric Dance Music (EDM)
