Assignment 6.02 - Aspect Ratio

1.33:1 (4:3) - For just about a century, (4 x 3) was the standard format of television programming. This was adapted from the ratio of film stock that was used in the silent era. As time has moved on, this ratio is accompanied by a few other standard ratios for television.

1.78:1 (16:9) - This became the standard format for high-definition (HD) displays, you will find this aspect ratio on modern televisions as well as computer monitors.


1.85:1 - Since the mid-1950s this widescreen format has been the predominant film ratio. Decades later it is still widely used after its introduction.


2.29:1 (widescreen) - Most commonly used for "big-budget" blockbusters, the aspect ratio has been the standard anamorphic widescreen format since the early 1970s. Before 1970, this ratio was originally 2.35:1.
